Note on GPS-Tracking, Permissions and Privacy Concerns
The Fieldclix Mobile App uses your device's Location Services to collect GPS data tracking movements of Employees who are Clocked-Into the Time Keeping part of the App. It does this to enable auto-allocation of time.
What this means for field users is you no longer need to provide info to their managers on what you did and where, the App does all this for you using geo-fences. All you have to do is Clock-In at the start of your day, Clock-Out at the end of your day, and nothing else!
But all this only works if we can track your location to determine when you are inside a Site geo-fence, inside a warehouse geo-fence, driving, etc.
For this reason, you must grant FCX App Location Services and GPS data access during App setup. Without this, it will not work.
The Fieldclix Mobile App does NOT, and cannot send GPS data to FCX for time outside a Clock-In/Clock-Out period. This is why only hourly employees can be tracked, because Clock-In is necessary to enable GPS-tracking. When you're not Clocked-In, we cannot get your GPS data.
Fieldclix is sensitive to user privacy concerns. Your GPS data is only used internally by the Fieldclix system, is not shared with any external software or entities, and is only accessible in the system by people your HR/executive team have authorized to have this access.
For more information about our privacy policy, see here.

Receive Text with Company Code and Credentials
Your company will arrange to send a text message and possibly an email from the system containing info about setting up the App along with both:
- Your Company Code
- Your unique login credentials
You need these 2 pieces of information to set up the app, so receiving these messages is usually the first step in App setup.
See the below for examples of the messages you will receive:
Install FCX App from Play Store
Note that you do not need any special link to acquire the app, just go to the Google Play Store and search for “Fieldclix.”
You can use the below links to jump to the app in the Play Store:
IMPORTANT
There are currently 2 Fieldclix Apps in the store. One is just called “Fieldclix” and the other is called “Fieldclix Next.” Your company is using Fieldclix Next so you should download that one. The other app will not work with your credentials!
After installing the App, open it to proceed with the installation.
The App may need to install a quick update before you can proceed.
App in Google Play Store:
Log-Into App with Company Code and Credentials
Now it's time to log-into the App.
Use the Company Code and Username and Password sent in the text message (discussed earlier) to fill these fields:
IF login fails, check for typos, the fields ARE case-sensitive. If this does not resolve the problem, contact your manager or Fieldclix Support.
Open Time Keeping Module in App and Attempt Clock/Check-In
IF you will be logging time in the App, it is important you take the next few steps to ensure permissions are correctly configured, including GPS-tracking, if applicable.
To set these permissions, you need to open the Time Keeping Module and attempt Clock/Check-In. This will trigger prompts that will let you set initial permissions.
After these steps, you'll confirm permissions in device settings.
Open Time Keeping Module and Start Clock/Check-In
Tap “Time Keeping” to open the Time Keeping Module:
IF you “Check-In,” you will see a yellow/orange button that says “Check-In.” Most users will see a green button that says “Clock-In.” If you do not see a button to Clock/Check-In, you may not have access to log time in the App (this is often the case for salary employees). If you do not have access to log time and think you should, contact your supervisor / Fieldclix Support.
If you have either a Check-In or Clock-In button, tap it to proceed:
Most users are GPS-tracked while on-the-clock. To ensure data is consistently captured, Fieldclix needs to capture this data even when the screen is off and in your pocket — that is, when the app is running in the background.
As such, the App may alert you that it uses “Background Location Access.”
NOTE
Background Location Access DOES NOT mean the App will track you when you are off-the-clock, we can only track location while a user is Clocked-In. Background Location Access just means tracking continues when the screen is off and the phone is in your pocket, a necessity to capture consistent data throughout the day.
Acknowledge the pop-up to continue:
Background Location Access Dialogue in Android:
Confirm Attestations, If Applicable
Some companies require some users to confirm one or several “Attestations” at Clock-In/Clock-Out.
Attestations require the user to acknowledge some statement, usually concerning company policy. Usually the user simply acknowledges the attestation.
Sometimes, the user has the option to select “No.” Only select this option (and enter a comment) if you cannot confirm the attestation because of some exceptional circumstance.
Complete the attestations to continue to Clock-In:
Grant Camera Permissions, Take and Confirm Selfie, If Applicable
Some companies require some employees to take a “selfie” photo during Clock/Check-In and Clock-Out. This photo documents who is taking the action.
If you are required to take a selfie at Clock/Check-In, the App will now ask for permission to access your device's camera. You must allow to proceed:
Camera Permissions Dialogue in Android:
The selfie camera activates — tap the camera icon to take a picture of your face.
Tap the “Checkmark” icon to confirm and apply the photo.
You can tap the “Re-Shoot” icon to retake the picture if desired.
Grant Location Permissions
If GPS-tracking is required for your position, you will now be asked to set Location Permissions.
Usually, the device will initially only give you 3 options:
- “Only this time”
- “While using the app”
- “Don't Allow”
The option we want is actually not here: “Allow all the time.” We will select that in the next step.
Select the “While using the app” option for now to proceed:
Initial Location Permissions Dialogue in Android:
Grant “All the Time” Location Permissions, If Prompted
On most devices the App will now prompt you to change Location permissions to the required setting of “All the Time,” necessary so that tracking can continue even when the screen is off the phone is in your pocket.
When prompted, select “Change to Allow all the time”:
Grant Location Permissions All the Time in Android:
After granting location permissions, you will be Clocked-In and will return to the Clock/Check-In/Out screen, where you will see a red “Clock-Out” button if you successfully Clocked-In:
You can now exit the app and return to your device's home screen... BUT, see the note below before you “swipe-off” the app!
Note Do Not Swipe-Off App
When you tap the “app switcher” button in Android, you can “swipe-off” apps to close them. Please DO NOT close the Fieldclix App in this way! Simply leave it open in the background when you switch to other apps. Swiping-off the app can cause temporary GPS data gaps.
Check Device Settings for Fieldclix
At this stage you may already have all the correct permissions set for the app, BUT, we need to be sure.
You should now go into the device settings, find the settings for Fieldclix and make sure they are all correct.
Open Device Settings Menu
Go Into Device Settings and Open Fieldclix Next Settings
Find and open the Settings main menu for your device:
Device Settings in Android:
In Android, you must first scroll-down to and tap the “Apps” button to open the list of all apps.
In the list of apps, scroll-down to find Fieldclix Next.
Check Location Permissions Are Set to “Always” and Precise Location and Background App Refresh Are Enabled, If Available.
Now that you're in the device settings for Fieldclix Next, the final step is to make sure location-related permissions are correct.
Check Location-Related Permissions in Android
In Android, the device settings screen for Fieldclix Next includes many options. Tap “Permissions” to access the permissions menus:
On the permissions screen, tap “Location” to edit location-related permissions:
On the Location Permissions screen, make sure “Allow all the time” is selected.
If available, make sure “Precise Location” is toggled-on.
